
Unless this is your first visit to my site, y’all know I love melee weapons. However something that had not been attempted in KotOR was the concept of shields. Knights of the Old Republic is based on the Aurora engine, which is best known for the other Bioware game Neverwinter Nights. What goes hand in hand with a sword (quite literally)? A shield. Now KotOR is not really designed for an off-hand weapon that is not a weapon, so I had to get creative.
The result was a conventional-looking shield with a repulsor on the back, creating for all intents and purposes a barrier that floats between your arm and your enemy. The front, which faces your enemy, is emblazoned with one of three logos — the Mandalore crest, the Republic logo, and the symbol of the Sith Empire — while the back sports a glowing repulsor pad. Each of the shields can be found in game. Yes, they can be found in-game. They also have enhanced stats (though are not upgradeable) and function like shields should. This means they do no damage but add defense.
It is important to note that each of these shields, again, is an off-hand defensive weapon. And sorry, because of the animations these are not suitable for left-handed players. Pretend you’re a righty when you use these — the left hand should be the off-hand, or your shield will look funky. If that doesn’t bother you, feel free. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: Run Install.exe from the repulsor_shields folder (you can copy this folder anywhere on your hard drive). Please do not patch this file by hand! If you patch the 2DA file by hand and do not update the UTI files, the mod will not work!
DESCRIPTION: I've always been a fan of melee combat, as users of my past mods have probably noticed. Quite a while ago I created a melee-themed mod for Jedi Academy which included several styles of shields. I was curious if this concept would translate at all to KotOR, and this is the result.
SHIELD INFORMATION: Because the KotOR animations don't bode well for a model that should be attached to the wrist, I've modified the design to fit in better with KotOR while retaining a very Star Warsish feel. The result is repulsor shields! The concept behind this is that the shield has a repulsor on the back which causes it to float above the arm. No contact is made between the user and the shield, but it still follows the users motions and makes for some pretty nifty defense! Keep in mind, though, that all shields do no damage. You trade your off-hand attack for improved defense. Also note that these shields are meant only to be used in the off-hand. Sorry, lefties!

SHIELD LOCATIONS: The shields can be found on Korriban, Dantooine, and Taris, respectively. I'm not telling you where precisely, so you'll either have to play and figure it out, ask me, or... well you could cheat, but what's the fun in that?
BUGS: The animations aren't meant for a weapon like this. It may not look perfect all the time... but then again that's why my imagination turned it into a repulsor shield. The shields are also a little bit farther from the arm than you might expect. This is to account for the possibility that you may use a shield with Zaalbar. I didn't want his fur sticking through.
COMMENTS: I encourage folks to make their own shield designs and send them to me. If I get enough I'll release a booster pack.
